Production process

Optical Coatings Japan is a technical development corporation, whose core technology is the plasma ion process. With its technological competitiveness throughout operations, Optical Coatings Japan realizes perfect designing and manufacturing processes, thereby producing quality products to client satisfaction.

[ 1 ] Designing

Based on a thorough study of user's requirements for development, film-coated optical products are designed with the assistance of computer-aided designing systems with our own programming. Primary designing are presented to users for their critical examination and optimization of specifications.



[ 2 ] Material procurement / Acceptance inspection

Purchase orders are issued to procure the substrate materials to fulfill design criteria in terms of quality as well as dimensional accuracy, Those materials normally include glass, Germanium and silicon, Acceptance inspection is conducted on the materials delivered to us means of a spectorophotometer and other instruments.



[ 3 ] Cleaning

To ensure proper vacuum evaporation, substrate materials are ultrasonically cleaned to remove particles, fats and oils, stains and other impurities, thus providing clean surfaces.



[ 4 ] Setting on a jig

To increase productivity and stabilize vacuum evaporation, substrate materials are set on our unique dome-shaped jigs.



[ 5 ] Coating

Under conditions of high accuracy film thickness control, a coating material is heated and evaporated in a vacuum evaporator, and the film is deposited or sputtered on to the substrate material.

Evacuation
The air in the evaporator is exhausted to the degree of vacuum suitable for
evaporation coating.

Coating
Coating is performed with control technology and coating technology according
to an optimal design completed after consultation with customer.

Leak
Coated products are taken out into ambient air and passed to the next process.

[ 6 ] Cutting

Filters & mirrors for optical pick-ups are precisely cut into unit products by dicing machine.



[ 7 ] Adhesion

Products for combined characteristics and those which need correction or film protection are precisely adhered to each other by means of expxy or adhesives cured by UV.

[ 8 ] Shipping inspection

We critically inspect finished products with respect to their spectral and phase characteristics, dimensional accuracy, external appearance and other factors.
